100 guests, representatives of the city and project participants are celebrating the topping out ceremony for the Frankfurt 3 e-shelter datacenter in Rüsselsheim today. On the almost 39,000 sqm site in the “Blauer See” business park, almost 17,600 sqm of datacenter space is being created in four building stages of approx. 4,400°sqm each. In November, the first building stage will be completed, almost exactly one year after construction began. Then, the first major anchor tenant will move in on time. In the presence of the mayor of the city of Rüsselsheim, Patrick Burghardt, Rupprecht Rittweger, CEO of e-shelter, Klaus Rudolph, leading architect of e-shelter colocation GmbH, and other guests, the building shell receives its traditional topping out wreath today. “The construction of the new Frankfurt 3 datacenter is another important step in the development of the high-tech site of Rüsselsheim,” says Mayor Patrick Burghardt. “Through our active promotion of the economy, which includes the provision of infrastructure as well as fibreglass cables, Rüsselsheim should become even more appealing as a business site in the future. The settlement of e-shelter confirms our course of action. I am pleased that this innovative and ultra-specialised company has decided on our city.” “At the Rüsselsheim site, we are combining the knowledge from 12 years of experience in the planning, building and operating of datacenters,” says Rupprecht Rittweger, CEO of e-shelter. “The datacenter not only conforms with the highest technical and security requirements. It is also the first time that the hybrid external air cooling co-developed by us in accordance with the latest energy-related findings, has been used. In comparison with pure water cooling, about a quarter of the cooling energy costs can be saved here.” The project is part of the expansion strategy of e-shelter: just a year ago, the first major e-shelter datacenter in Switzerland was opened in Zurich. Another building with 3,400 sqm of space is also being built on the e-shelter campus in Frankfurt.
e-shelter develops, operates and secures high-availability datacenters whose infrastructure provides the highest level of physical security and operational reliability. At its main site in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, e-shelter has created a campus for resilient operating environments, which is protected through a multi-level security system and, with 60,000 sqm of space, is the single largest datacenter location in Europe. Additional e-shelter locations in Germany are located in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Zurich. e-shelter was founded in the year 2000.
